Human Rights Adviser

About this Opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists for a Human Rights Adviser to join the Secretariat. The Adviser will be accountable to the Director, Political Governance and Security Programme in supporting Forum members strengthen human rights mechanisms, policy and practice in the region in accordance with the international human rights framework.

Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

Policy analysis and advice;

  • Support to the Director of the Political Governance & Security Programme and Management of Staff;
  • Coordination of capacity and capability building within Forum Island Countries;
  • Coordination of regional initiatives;
  • Representation of Forum interests; and
  • Meeting Coordination.

Applicants should have an advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in human rights, public or international law, political science, international relations or other related field and substantial experience in the provision of strategic policy advice on human rights, preferably within the Pacific region.  Knowledge and understanding of the international human rights framework, experience of human rights technical assistance within the region, and experience in designing and implementing effective consultation methodologies are essential.

About the Benefits

The salary will be in the range of SDR34,026 to SDR51,040 per annum.  At the 1 November 2014 exchange rate this salary range was equivalent to FJD97,608 to FJD146,414. For non-Fijian nationals, this salary may be tax-free.
